Getting Healthy!

 

Sounds simple enough right? I mean the tools to getting healthy and living a vibrant life are not really that difficult. The problem is we are flooded with information which then causes confusion, frustration and eventually we throw in the towel on our quest to improved health.  Low fat - low cal - fat free - gluten free - go vegan - cholesterol is bad - juicing is good - running too much is bad - sleep is good but how do I get more of it? and the list goes on.  Due to this flood of information it can be helpful to have a health expert work alongside of you on your journey to getting healthy and staying healthy.

Whats a Health Coach? More specifically what is a Primal Health Coach?

 

 

A certified Primal Health Coach is an expert in the primal and ancestral lifestyle and has also been trained how to work with clients to achieve a healthy vibrant life. Believe me, the people I have coached one-on-one are very intelligent people. They don’t necessarily lack the knowledge or ability to know the information about being healthy, but knowing and doing are two different things. We, as humans, all know things we should be doing but we don’t always do it. A health coach can help fill that gap and provide both a game plan and accountability. 

 

Its also a financial investment and when money is involved sometimes that can spur compliance and adherence to a program. The goal of the Primal health Coaching program is to, as mentioned in my “Whats a Primal Health Coach” blog, is to empower clients to make lasting behavior changes that will give them life long health and wellness. This is not a short-term fad diet. This is the roadway to eventual effortless fat loss and vibrant health for life without burden. Consider hiring a health coach to get you on the journey to life long health. 

 

What should I look for in a health coach?

 

  1. Most important is your health coach walking the walk? Seriously! Does your health coach LOOK healthy? Are they “practicing what they preach”? We are all humans and imperfect BUT it’s very important to hire someone who is living a healthy lifestyle and living the principles they believe in. I wouldn’t hire a skydiving instructor who only went through a handful of classes, has maybe jumped the minimal number of required times and is pretty good with his knowledge of sky diving. I would want a sky diving instructor who loves to sky dive, does it every week, has made thousands of jumps and is an expert in sky diving. The same applies with hiring a scuba instructor, or small plane pilot AND a health coach. A road map of success should also follow them.

  2. Does their method of working hand-in-hand work for me? For example is it all electronic/email correspondence or will he/she meet in person or do I have the option of either? I would suggest an initial in person meet-up with your perspective health coach prior to making any decisions, the finer details can be agreed upon there after. 

  3. Do our personalities match up and do I feel comfortable sitting down with him or her sharing past history about myself?? Chemistry is key and your health coach should not only be a good listener but also very understanding of past difficulties.

  4. Are they positive, encouraging and supportive?  

  5. How accessible are they? Do I only get to discuss matters with him/her during our scheduled meetings or can I correspond via text or email with questions, comments and support along the way? 

  6. ARE THEY A “CERTIFIED” HEALTH COACH? In todays world of social media, there are many hard bodies touting themselves as fitness professionals offering online services without the proper certifications or credentials. The question is, “Would you ever allow someone to drill your teeth or give you a needle without being a legitimate dentist or a doctor”? Me either! Health Coaching is a relationship not an electronic transaction!
